As the EPA and state agencies continually lower the limits on heavy metal discharge concentrations, companies need technology that consistently removes heavy metals to the low concentrations required by the regulations.

Metre-General, Inc. specializes in the manufacturing of equipment for the removal of heavy metals from water. Heavy metals are removed by chelation on immobilized ligands, called Octolig®. Octolig® has an extremely high selectivity for heavy metals. By using an Octolig® Metal Removal Plant, heavy metals are reduced to the required levels by a simple operation at a low cost.

By controlling the pH of the solution entering the Octolig® MRP, heavy metals in the solution are removed to produce low discharge concentrations. For example, cadmium is often reduced to concentrations of a few parts per billion.
The cations of sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are not complexed and retained. Since those elements are not harmful in waste streams, not removing them is an advantage, because all of the metal-removing capacity of the Octolig® is retained for the heavy metals.
